Description
Opened in 2004, the Scottish Parliament building at Holyrood in Edinburgh is an extraordinary piece of contemporary architecture. Designed by Spanish architect Enric Miralles, it is a curious collection of unexpected angles, intricate structures and hidden passages. A building that is almost impossible to capture in a single photograph, its distinctive forms have been carefully refined into a classic little house.
Architectural details from the original building are translated onto each face, with some elements recessed into the concrete while others rise from the surface. This interplay of depth and texture creates a tactile quality, bringing character and detail to each side of the dwelling. Cast in polished, iconic grey concrete, the Scottish Parliament Little Dwelling distils this remarkable piece of contemporary architecture into a simple form to collect, display and treasure.
